Preggo Post, uhh… Part 2?

23 weeks.

It’s only been 5 weeks since my last preggo post, but how things have changed!  I definitely have my rough days, but 2nd trimester life is a walk in the park compared to those loverly first 12 weeks.  Actually, come to think about it, I think it’s mostly because you’re starting to get comfortable with the complete lack of control you now have.  Once you sort of let go, and just go with the flow life is easier to handle…and it’s actually pretty awesome!

This last week, random peeps started to acknowledge my lovely baby bump.  Personally, I think those people are pretty ballsy.  I wouldn’t ask someone when they are due unless they were currently screaming through a contraction…maybe that’s just me.  However, these first few strangers were met with a very cheerful Erica.  There’s something exciting about knowing that you finally look pregnant, rather than just bloated and squishy.  Though, re-ask me this in 3 months and I’m sure to have a completely different response. 😉

Another new development is the movement.  That’s right, folks!  My perfect little pomegranate (baby is the size of a pomegranate this week) is a dancing machine!  I found it really difficult at first to decipher what baby movement felt like.  There was probably almost a month of random feelings before I was certain that it was movement.  Now, this is definitely different for everyone, and my doctor said that the way I’m carrying it would take me longer to feel movements than the average preggo.  It is really an indescribable feeling.  At first, I thought it felt like someone was drumming their fingers on my innards.  Then, after a while it changed into more of a twitch, or what I called “fart bubbles”.  I’m such a lady…

Of course, we don’t get to sit in 2nd trimester glory without a few aches and pains…

Backaches and sciatic pain are more common than I’d like to admit.  Do some reading, and find some stretches to help you out.  Google and Pinterest are your best friend…use them.  Also, walks are a great way to help alleviate some pain.  My doctor said walking and then stretching would be great help.  If you were a lazy bum all through winter and are now trying to get back into some form of exercise, your first few walks will be less than pleasant but keep it up.  It’s worth it.

Heart burn.  Some days, I’m pretty sure I could burn down a forest with a burp.  It’s awful, and honestly I think it’s worse than the backaches.  I did suffer from acid reflux prior to my pregnancy, so I was sorta screwed in this department.  Tums, Pepcid AC, and sorbet all seem to help me out at least a little bit.

The evil monster no one wants to talk about?  Constipation.  I swear to all that is holy, I was ready to sacrifice a goat if it would have meant I’d be able to take a decent numero dos.  Worst. week. ever.  Stock up on fiber one bars and carrots.  You’ll thank me.

What was I saying? …….. *crickets* …………….. *crickets* ……… *crickets* ………
Oh yeah, baby brain.  Oh.emm.gee.  I’ve never felt so incapable of existing in my entire life.  I told my husband that I might need to make a checklist of how to make it through my day, because without it I may just forget to breathe or something.

I live 2 blocks from where I work, so I don’t always drive to work.  Well, one morning I did drive to work…but I walked home…right past my car.  It didn’t even dawn on me once that I needed to drive my car home.  When my husband got home and there was only one car in the driveway, I asked him when he parked the car in the garage.  He just stared blankly at me, and let me come to my own realization.  It took longer than I’d care to admit.

That new dog leash I bought last week?  Not a single clue where it is.  Might as well go buy another one.

When someone asks for your address, don’t forget to include the city.  It’s pretty difficult to mail a letter without it.

And seriously, don’t ever think that you can run to the grocery store, or remember to call someone back, or run an errand without writing down what you need to do.  You will never do it correctly.

I’ve been told that at least a few of your brain cells return after baby is born.  Until then, I’m going to cross all of my fingers and toes and pray that I make it through the day.
