Dear Hollywood, Perhaps you need to rethink “Beauty?”

Remember the movie “Mean Girls?” When that film was released, the world was introduced to a curvy, grown-up Lindsey Lohan. And she was gorgeous! Even as a teenage girl, I remember the scene where she’s walking down the hallway in slo-mo with the rest of the Mean Girls and thinking to myself “That is a good-looking chick!” So what happened?! Who got their hooks in her and told her to change her appearance? Because the result does not seem to be an improvement. When did looking like a bean-pole become synonimous with beautiful? I don’t know about you, but when I see a skeletal figure in a size 0, I don’t think “I want to look like that!” I think “Eat a sandwich before the weight of your purse is enough to tip you over.”

Hey Hollywood! Is there’s a shift happening? Are curves the new skinny?! We think it should be! Here are some beautiful ladies we love that don’t look like their skipping out on breakfast!

Current Realistic Looking Actresses & Entertainers

Casey Wilson: She plays the lovable goofball, Penny, on the ABC comedy “Happy Endings.” In the show, you see her workout at the gym and in one episode she attempts to cut out sugar completely, but  it’s in an attempt to be healthy and channel Teri Hatcher. In fact, the only time body weight is brought up is in reference to the show’s main gay guy character, Max. “Penny” is an upbeat, optimistic, sweetheart looking for love and I’m glad they don’t focus on the superficial stuff. Casey wears a halter jumpsuit while singing a duet with Megan Mullally in another episode and she looks incredible!

Jennifer Lawrence: You also know her as Katniss Everdeen from the blockbuster film “The Hunger Games,” but when I first noticed her lack of gross collarbone, she was playing Mystique in “X-Men First Class.” For those of you unfamiliar with the franchise, Mystique is an ethereal mutant shapeshifter. OH YEAH and she’s naked and blue, so there’s no hiding anything! And you can’t have boobs like that when you’re starving yourself. When training for “The Hunger Games,” Ms. Lawrence said that she didn’t diet, she exercised! But she didn’t diet, and I think that’s awesome!

Kate Winslet: Multiple award winning actress, mother of two, and an out-spoken opposer of excessive photoshopping, Kate Winslet is a pretty impressive woman. If you’ve seen even a couple of her movies, the likelihood of you seeing her naked is pretty high! Here’s the list of films where Kate has exposed it all for cameras: “Heavenly Creatures,” “Jude,” “Titanic,” “Hideous Kinky,” “Holy Smoke,” “Quills,” “Iris,” “Little Children,” and “The Reader.” Obviously, she’s not shy about her body. And I don’t see any reason why she should be, props to you Kate!

Sofia Vergara: Most famous for her role as Gloria on the hit ABC comedy “Modern Family,” Sofia recently exploded onto the scene as a curvy sex symbol. In the show, her curvy figure is front-and-center for her character, but Gloria is not a mere trophy wife. She’s a good mother, she values her family, and is proud of her heritage. The Columbian-born actress used to be a runway model, so it just goes to show that you don’t have to be skin and bones to sell high fashion.

Christina Aguilera: Although she used to be crazy skinny back in her “Dirrty” music video days, Christina Aguilera has revamped her looked since then. Shortly after her “Stripped” tour, the singer cut her hair and went blonde, really  blonde. But the Marilyn Monroe inspired look suits her. And, of course, after having a child, your body changes. Since giving birth to her son in 2008, Christina has become curvier, but she has embraces it instead of hiding it. The coach and judge of “The Voice” can be seen wearing form-fitting, skin revealing outfits every week on national television. And just like you sang it in the past, You Are Beautiful.

Scarlett Johansson: ScarJo has been working in films since she was 10 years old. And as she’s grown up on screen, we’ve seen her rock practically every hair color available but she’s kept her curvy, buxom figure. Obviously people, especially men, seem to like it since she’s been on several “Sexiest Hot Women Celebrities Alive in the World from 2002 ’til Now” -type lists.

Jennifer Lopez: When JLo was first discovered by audiences in her breakout role as the title character of “Selena,” I think her butt became just as famous as the woman herself. She maintains that curvy physique to this day as has evolved into a leading fashion figure. Yet she still has a great physicality about her, which is apparent whenever you see her dance. And even after giving birth to twins four years ago, she still isn’t afraid to bare some skin in plunging v-neck outfits.

Yes, these woman are in incredible shape and yes, they probably have trainers and dieticians at their disposal to keep them looking that way, so we can’t ALL look like them. The point is that they don’t look like they are starving themselves. The look HEALTHY! And that’s what WE think should be the ideal for outer beauty.

The Ultimate Beauty Icon
Marilyn Monroe– A classic actress known for her beauty and glamour. She was a sex symbol for the world, and was the original Hollywood icon of beauty. She was comfortable with her curves! Imagine what today’s plastic/botox filled women would look like if they only would’ve stayed away from the knife in the max capacity that they do today?! Whatever the case, and no matter the procedure, Marilyn takes the cake, and will for many years to come!

And if you think Marilyn is no longer a relevant standard of beauty in this country, well think again!

To be honest, I don’t like the skinny figure too as beauty icon. It gives the wrong impression especially to teenager. I’ve heard a lot of weight complaint from my junior, where in fact they body is okay. I mean, their body mass index might be slightly above the normal one, but I don’t even think they’re fat or obese. And they just talk about diet and diet and reduce food and all. It’s sad.

I myself is skinny girl, not because I want it, but because no matter how much I eat food, I hardly gain weight, and it’s frustrating for me. I want to have more weight 😀

Reblogged this on Kittyinaz and commented:
Amen!!! I know some natural Size 0’s (My family is small boned and such) but they don’t have the stick figure. I was once one of them, and now will never get back, age struck. But honestly one of the prettiest people I know? My cousin, Amanda, and you can never call her nothing but curvy.

This is so true! Lindsay Lohan looks like a real skank now. Loved her in Mean Girls…she was confident and comfortable in her own body. That is what makes someone attractive, whether they are a size 0 or 20.

It’s ridiculous and puts this pressure on young girls. I don’t like women are too skinny. I am not sure who does.h

Thanks for liking my blog post. I, too, believe that Hollywood has been trying really hard to change what beautiful is. However, you will never be able to convince me that some of the actresses these days are “healthy”. The ones you have posted here are a MUCH better example of what healthy is.

I completely agree!I do not understand this obsession with being skinny and I should know.I have been on the thinner side my entire life(still am :() and I HATE it!There isnt any method of putting on weight I have not tried any disgusting tasting protein shake I havent drunk.Thats how much I want to look human and NOT like an alien stick insect 😦 and to think people voluntarily do this to themselves!

So-called ‘Ugly Betty’ (America Ferrera) is hot too. Grrrrr….

Marilyn says it all! Nothing was scrawny about that bombshell, and she still wipes the deck with all the skinny little newcomers 🙂

Heck yeah! All the men I’ve ever talked to aren’t interested in super skinny women, they want healthy women

I agree with every word. Long live the likes of Kate Winslett and Marilyn. Lindsey Lohan on the right is, dare I say it, of almost concentration camp proportions; it’s grotesque.

Well, remembering the Martian who liked to eat his girlfriends’ gloves, I guess there’s some subjectivity in perceiving beauty…along with some universality, since the same painters keep showing up in museums. For show biz though, I’d guess fashion has a lot to do with it. Actresses seem to have been slinking down since Mae West. Photography famously added avoirdupois to reality and actresses routinely dieted before shooting movies, right? But now we’ve photoshop, which ought to help a lot. The next group of hot actresses may be virtual…save a lot of production cost! And they could be tailored to audience preferences, too. Hmnn….
