Once a Month Meets Our Time of the Month!

OAM isn’t the only ass-kicking, name-taking group of women in the world. In fact, we four ladies were pleasantly surprised to find another group of gals right here in Los Angeles that share some of OAM’s same values, background, and similar name – Our Time of the Month.

Our Time of the Month is a performance group created by three college buddies (sound familiar – ahem, the OAM sisters) and actresses – Lira, April, and Tracy. Their shows are advertised as the ultimate girls night – with stories, wine, chocolate, and a raffle. Attendees are also encouraged to wear their pajamas and expect the unexpected (sounds like Big Brother on CBS -anyone? anyone?).

How could OAM pass up on an ultimate girls night? So, on Saturday night we put together our best pajama ensembles and prepared to get uber girly for the night.

We started the night off with a pre-party wine warm-up at Tosha’s place (Muscato, a favorite of ours). At which point Bryce was lectured by Kyla. Yes, she does need to know how to drink faster to be apart of the group 😉

We then loaded up and headed to Michael’s Bar and Grill where we enjoyed another round of cocktails and got appetizers to go. We would have stayed to eat there, but it became obvious that OAM needs a little help with time management.

But one thing we are good at is planning for proper transportation when we know we will be drinking. And thankfully, the show for Our Time of the Month was only a block away from the restaurant. Safety first!

We knew we were in the right place when we started seeing women wearing cute printed pajamas walking down the sidewalk. Each of us were handed two raffle tickets as we walked in the door and were promptly pointed in the direction of wine and chocolate buffet.  You name it – they had it.

We had the choice red or white wine to wash down some great chocolate! Our collective favorites were the dark chocolate candy bars filled with salted caramel and the S’mashing S’mores (both of which can be purchased at Trader Joes).

After some socializing and face stuffing, we found our seats. The cast included the three creators, April Wade, Lira Kellerman, and Tracy Clifton, as well as some additional actors – Eva Bloomfield, Michelle Halterman, and Jill Saunders. Many of the girls had previously performed in the Vagina Monologues, which was the inspiration for their show.

The show kicked off with a series of dramatic and comedic female-focused monologues which took the audience on an emotional roller coaster…laughter one minute and tears the next. Each story had such honest emotion at it’s core that made the performance very engaging.

The second half included story-telling and audience participation using word association. And 3 of the 4 OAM members participated with a personal anecdote! (way to go Bryce…)

We don’t want to give you too many details about the show OR the top-secret raffle because we encourage you to call up your girlfriends and plan a trip to experience Our Time of the Month’s next show for yourself!

We wish the best of luck to the ladies at Our Time of the Month!
It was a great first show and we are sure there will be many more to come!
